Holding Statement & Statement of Transactions

Two different statements answer two different questions. A holding statement tells you what is in your demat account right now. A Statement of Transactions tells you what moved in or out over a period — which is the one that reveals anything unexpected.

What to check on every statement

  • Every debit. Credits are usually explainable after the fact; an unexplained debit is the one that needs action the same day.
  • Opening and closing balances reconcile against the transactions listed. If they do not, something is missing from the statement.
  • Corporate actions — bonus, split, merger credits — appear as you expect for the securities you hold.
  • Your registered mobile and email printed on the statement are current. These are where TPIN OTPs go.
  • Nomination status. If it shows as not registered, register one — it is the single thing that most simplifies matters for your family later.

Requesting a statement

  • For the current position, request a holding statement from ATS at any time.
  • For a past period — a financial year for your tax return, for example — specify the from and to dates when you request it.
  • Electronic delivery is free and immediate; ask for physical copies only if you specifically need them.
  • Raise the request via the support desk or write to dp@adityatrading.com.

Keeping statements

Keep your statements. They are the record of what you held and when you acquired it, which is what establishes your cost of acquisition and holding period for capital gains. Reconstructing that years later from broker contract notes alone is considerably harder than filing the statement when it arrives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Statements are issued by the depository, and ATS as your depository participant makes them available to you. You receive a Statement of Transactions periodically, and you can request a holding statement at any time.

An SOT lists the movements in your demat account over a period — credits from purchases and corporate actions, and debits from sales and transfers. It answers "what moved", as opposed to a holding statement which answers "what do I have now".

Monthly for periods in which there were transactions in the account. Where there has been no activity, the statement is issued at the longer interval prescribed by the depositories, so a dormant account still receives one periodically.

A holding statement covers one demat account. A Consolidated Account Statement covers all your demat accounts across both depositories plus your mutual funds, linked by PAN.

Yes. Statements delivered electronically are provided at no cost. Physical copies, where you specifically request them, may attract a charge as per the schedule of charges.

Request it from ATS for the period you need. Statements for earlier periods can be reissued — useful when you are filing returns or need a record for a specific financial year.

Treat it as urgent. Contact ATS immediately at dp@adityatrading.com and raise a ticket. An unexplained debit from a demat account should never be left to the next statement cycle.
