Where offered, you can invest in mutual funds and start a SIP directly from your ATS account. Direct plans carry no distributor commission and a lower expense ratio, so returns are slightly higher than regular plans. A SIP auto-invests a fixed amount each period through a one-time mandate. Starting and managing a SIP

  1. Choose a fund and set the instalment amount and date.
  2. Authorise the auto-debit mandate once; the SIP then invests automatically each period.
  3. Redeem to withdraw, or switch to move between schemes, from your holdings section.
  4. Track your investments and current value in your portfolio/holdings view.

Tax on mutual funds

Equity and debt funds are taxed differently, and switches count as redemptions for capital gains — see our tax on stock trading guide before you rebalance.

Why direct plans matterA ~0.5–1% lower expense ratio on a direct plan compounds to a meaningfully larger corpus over 10+ years — the single easiest way to improve fund returns.
