As per SEBI rules, you must either register a nominee or formally opt out of nomination. You can add up to three nominees with a percentage share for each. A registered nominee lets your securities pass smoothly to the right person and avoids a lengthy transmission process for your family. You can manage nomination while opening a demat account or later from your profile.

Why nomination matters

Without a nominee, your legal heirs must complete a transmission process with additional documentation, which takes longer. A registered nominee makes the transfer of your demat holdings smooth and fast.

How to add, change or opt out

  • Add / change: update nominees online from your profile or settings using OTP verification, or submit the nomination form.
  • Multiple nominees: add up to three and specify the percentage share for each.
  • Opt out: you may opt out by submitting the prescribed declaration — though registering a nominee is strongly recommended.
Keep it updatedReview your nominee after major life events (marriage, births, bereavement). An outdated nominee can complicate transmission later.
