Indian gold prices start from the international spot price, quoted in dollars per troy ounce. That converts into rupees at the prevailing USD/INR rate, then import duty and 3% GST are added. The figures on this page begin from the live MCX gold futures price — the exchange-traded Indian reference — and are adjusted for purity and GST, then for the Bangalore market differential.
Four things move the number day to day: the dollar gold price, which reacts to interest rates and geopolitical risk; the rupee, since a weaker rupee raises the rate even when dollar gold is flat; import duty, which changes with the Union Budget; and local demand, which rises sharply through the wedding season and around Akshaya Tritiya and Dhanteras.
Making charges are separate. They are set per design, not per city, and usually run between 8% and 25% of the metal value — more for intricate work. Two jewellers quoting the same Bangalore rate can still hand you very different bills, so it is worth comparing making charges and asking about wastage before buying.

The 22 carat gold rate in Bangalore today is ₹1,39,736 per 10 grams (₹13,974 per gram), and 24 carat gold is ₹1,52,398 per 10 grams (₹15,240 per gram). "916 gold" is simply 22 carat gold — the number is its purity, 916 parts per 1,000, which is 22/24. The 916 hallmark rate in Bangalore today is ₹1,39,736 per 10 grams.
One gram of 22 carat gold costs ₹13,974 in Bangalore, and one gram of 24 carat gold costs ₹15,240. Jewellers quote per gram for lighter pieces and per 10 grams for coins and bars.
Bangalore carries roughly a 0.25% premium over the national benchmark. Inter-city differences come from distance from the bullion import hubs (Mumbai and Ahmedabad clear most imported gold) and long-standing local dealer association conventions. Southern metro; supplied via Chennai and Mumbai. Across all Indian cities the whole spread is under 1%.
24 carat gold is 99.9% pure and is sold as coins and bars for investment — it is too soft for jewellery. 22 carat is 91.67% pure, alloyed with copper or zinc for durability, and is what almost all Indian gold jewellery is made from. That purity difference is fixed, so 22K always costs exactly 91.67% of 24K for the same weight, before making charges.
The rates on this page include the 3% GST on gold but not making charges. Making charges are set by each jeweller and vary by design — typically 8% to 25% of the metal value, and higher for intricate work. A shop's final bill will therefore be above the metal rate shown here.
That depends on your goal rather than on the day. If you are buying jewellery for an occasion, the rate matters less than the making charges you negotiate. If you are buying gold as an investment, consider Sovereign Gold Bonds or gold ETFs instead — they carry no making charges, no storage risk and no purity doubt. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
Indian gold rates track the international spot price in dollars, converted at the USD/INR rate, plus import duty and 3% GST. Local dealer associations then publish a city rate on top of that. The figures here are derived from live MCX gold futures, which is the exchange-traded reference for Indian gold.
